Vernonia hirsuta is a vibrant grassland plant that attracts a wide range of pollinators. Its bright purple flowers stand out clearly and are often busy with insect activity.
Vernonia hirsuta is a tall indigenous grassland perennial recognised for its vivid purple flower heads and distinctive quilted silver-grey leaves. Emerging from underground rootstocks after winter, the flower buds first appear as silvery balls before opening into dense clusters that attract bees, butterflies and beetles. After flowering, the wind-dispersed seeds form soft silver seed heads that remain decorative in the grassland landscape long after the blooms have faded.
