When to See It: Spring/Summer
Thunbergia natalensis is a soft, trailing plant that adds colour to shaded areas.
Thunbergia natalensis is a delicate indigenous woodland shrub known for its soft blue flowers and ability to thrive in shaded forest-edge habitats. Dormant through winter, it rapidly regrows with the arrival of warmer weather and flowers throughout summer in moist parts of the Midlands. The exploding seed capsules scatter seed naturally into surrounding vegetation, allowing the plant to reseed freely in suitable conditions. It is particularly well suited to water-wise and shade gardens.
