Forest ecosystems support complex relationships between plants, fungi, and wildlife.

Quick Facts

Ancient Pockets of Biodiversity

The forests in the Dargle are part of the Midlands mistbelt forest system — rare, fragmented patches that have survived over time. Some trees in these forests are hundreds, even thousands, of years old. These areas provide habitat for species like the Cape Parrot and Samango monkey, both closely tied to indigenous forest environments.

Because these forests exist in smaller patches, maintaining connections between them is essential — allowing wildlife to move and ecosystems to stay balanced.
